A thriller in Dubai on Super Sunday! Pakistan survived some nervy moments to chase down India's 181/7 on the penultimate ball to open their Super Four campaign at Asia Cup 2022 with a five-wicket win. Needing seven runs in the last over, Arshdeep Singh was hit for a four off the second ball, but responded with a couple of dots and the wicket of Asif Ali to make it 2 in 2. Then the new man Iftikhar Ahmed took a couple off the next to record a famous win. India next play Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the same venue.
This was Pakistan's third win over India in 11 T20Is, and it's 1-1 in this edition of the Asia Cup. And the hero of the match was Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 71 off 51. Mohammad Nawaz scored crucial 42 runs in 20 balls. For India, all five bowlers took a wicket each, but none managed to impose, really. India, the defending champions, will now need to beat Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to make the final.
Earlier, India's new approach to T20 cricket was unveiled. Put into bat first by Pakistan in the second Super Four match of Asia Cup 2022, India got off to a flier with openers KL Rahul (28 off 20) and Rohit Sharma (28 off 16) taking on Pakistan bowlers. The first ten overs witnessed 93 runs.
India then lost quick wickets, even though Virat Kohli dropped anchor to play a brilliant, measured knock of 60 runs off 44 balls. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya however failed to sparkle as India managed only 88 in the next ten for a total of 181/7.
